ABOUT ABOUT

MAVerick Ensemble presents Stephen Albert's To Wake the Dead with mezzo soprano, Julia Bentley.  To Wake the Dead is six sentimental songs and an interlude after Finnegan's Wake on May 23 and 25.  In addition, the program will include works by Beaser, Beglarian, Berg, and Freund.

Stephen Albert won a Pulitzer Prize in 1985, but died in an automobile accident on December 27, 1992 at the age of 51. Unfortunately like the work of too many great composers who have passed tragically at an early age, his music has faded from the repertoire. Albert said in an interview, "My feeling is that music now must be performed because the performers themselves love it. . . . That's why music gets repeated and becomes part of the repertoire."  We hope you love To Wake the Dead as much as we do!

As usual, there will be a reception following the concert.
